Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme…
2018 | Scarborough Herbs
from the medieval English ballad ‘Scarborough Fair’.
She once was
a true love of mine..
Which of the many versions of the medieval English ballad ‘Scarborough Fair’ was the true inspiration to these drawings, turned into a little mystery, but it probably started with Omnia, Simon & Garfunkel and Sarah Brightman. I keep discovering new versions, and honestly, I almost love them all.
There is something healing about the melody and the lyrics are full of symbolism and mystical references. These herbs all have their medicinal and magical qualities, some of them lost in time, others still in use.
The Process:
Pencil drawings on paper, digital colouring in Photoshop with my Wacom Intuos, InDesigned into cards and printed on ecological paper made of agricultural waste.
