Medieval Botanical Illustration
2-day workshop

Introduce yourself to the medieval style of Botanical Illustration, do herbal studies and make a block print design of your favorite herb or plant.

During this 2-day workshop, we will enter the world of Medieval Botanical Illustrations. The lessons will be on two Sundays at several beautiful outdoor locations and at my Printmaking Studio.

On the first Sunday we will start with a short introduction about ‘Drawing from Nature’, ‘Botanical Illustration’ and specifically the medieval style. You will make Studies from the plants in your environment, with all sorts of drawing materials.

On the second Sunday at my studio, we will transform our field studies into a Blockprint Design, to resemble the typical medieval woodcut illustrations. We will print on different types of paper and make single-layer prints that you can later add colour to.

After the workshop you’ll go home with your studies and a set of prints!

Tijdens deze 2-daagse workshop maken we kennis met de wereld van de Middeleeuwse Botanische Illustraties. De lessen zijn op 2 zondagen op diverse prachtige buitenlocaties en in mijn atelier.

Op de eerste zondag starten we met een korte introductie over ‘Natuurtekenen’, ‘Botanische Illustraties’ en specifiek de middeleeuwse stijl. Je zult Studies maken van de planten in je omgeving, met uiteenlopende tekenmaterialen.

Op de tweede zondag transformeren we in mijn atelier onze veldstudies naar een Linosnede Ontwerp, waarmee we refereren aan de typische middeleeuwse houtsnedes. We printen op verschillende soorten papier en maken een-laagse afdrukken, waar je later kleur aan toe kunt voegen.

Na afloop van de workshop ga je naar huis met je studies en een set prints!

Materials included
No prior experience needed
You don’t need any drawing or printmaking experience to do this workshop, we will work with a step-by-step programme, tailored to the groups preferences. You can bring inspiration to work with or draw more outside of the lessons, but it is perfectly fine if you don’t.

Ik heb echt veel geleerd en genoten van deze workshop! In een korte tijd heeft Jerney veel informatie gegeven, geïnspireerd en mij laten oefenen, stapsgewijs en met een fijne opbouw, zodat ik met vertrouwen en plezier een mooie print heb kunnen maken.

Haar atelier was sfeervol, we hebben in een kleine groep lekker gewerkt en gegeten en werden goed begeleid. Ik ben super tevreden met de ervaring en het eindresultaat!
